Baby Elle's Big Girl Nursery

So I've been toying with the notion of changing the color scheme of Elle's Nursery for a while now.  Started out with black furniture, pastel pink, white and black accessories.  Now that she's 2....I have been crushing on a more modern yellow and black color scheme.  However, after an endless search of just the right fabric, it was decided that the fabric I had imagined didn't exhist.....BOO!  But, found the next best thing, a soft yellow and gray chenille fabric which I overpaid for, but hey, I was tired of looking!  I painted the walls a very muted gray and made an ornate stencil on the wall out of wrapping paper.  Filled it in with yellow paint, made her bedding/curtains and then decided to add a splash (or explosion) of Aqua.  So just in case I'm confusing you....the colors are now Black, Aqua, Yellow, Gray and White.  I know....had to add the Aqua cause my 13 year old daughter no longer wanted the Aqua shag rug that she HAD to have last year and I felt like I needed to use it somewhere.  SO.....here is what's been done so far.  By the way, there is absolutely NO website for inspiration using these colors.....so maybe it will help SOMEBODY!  LOL!  By the way, I am doing this on a budget due to the fact that we tend to redecorate bedrooms in the house every couple of years.  I am sharing some of my repurposed finds with you!

The Bedding:  I used the black and white houndstooth fabric left from her old bedding.
An open back frame I had in a cherry finish, sprayed aqua and distressed just a little.  I covered a piece of foam core board with the reverse side of my fabric....it exposed more of the yellow.  Then hung these letters with pins.
The solid black curtains are ready made, I just added the houndstooth fabric to give them more height.
OK.....seriously.....I was so stoked when I ran into a local Good Will shop to look for frames and found these floral plastic pics.  I saw some similar to this at a high end decor store last week, they were made of polyresin, but who cares.  I paid $2.99 for the set!  They were $25 each at the decor boutique.  Below is what I did with them, and a little bit of magic from Aqua spray paint.

This sweet ceramic rosebud lamp I found the same day at Good Will for $6.99, it came with an ugly white lampshade, so I bought a self adhesive one from Hobby Lobby and covered it with a fabric remenant and added a headband bow that Elle has outgrown.

This design on her wall will eventually have something, like a large cursive "E", but for now
still thinking.......

I am almost finished!  I have a large houndstooth trunk coming that I will use as her toybox.  Also sewing a slipcover for an ottoman to go in the room.  More to come soon!

Pinkalicious Baby Shower!

A Diaper Cake I made with a lot of help from the Cricut....that thing is so nifty!!!

The Table:  I made a table runner out of leopard print wrapping paper, held up great for spills and looked very chic!

Made this sweet sign for the gift table
Thank you Cricut!  Banner turned out so great!
I filled small leopard print goody boxes with popcorn and printed "Tanai's about to pop" on them for favors.
The Guest of Honor, Tanai, and of course baby Tegan due in August!

Bedroom Makeover

So I am starting the task of redorating my bedroom.  I am going for a high end look with a lot of repurposed furniture and finds.  I am also attempting some custom work i.e.:  1st attempt at making an upholstered headboard.  Secondly, I am trying my hand at distressing an old dresser/mirror found for $28.30.  Since my current bedroom decor (mainly red/black, tan, leopard print...you know the scheme) with large bulky black furnture and a big honking armoir with the flat screen TV in it that can easily be hung on the wall to free space... is hanging on within an inch of it's life, it's time to do away with the dark dungeonous feel, and opt for a lighter, brighter (not to shabby) look.  I am deeply inspired by Tori Spelling's bedroom.  I am using a dockside blue, tan with white distressed furniture (still up for debate) however, am struggling with the accent color for wall frames, etc.  1.  Black 2. Silver 3. Gold - happens to be my fave.....I am posting some inspiration photos courtesy of Red Chateau Home Decor, Ballard Designs and Oxygen's Tori and Dean.  I will also be posting updates along the way, and of course, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I am pretty much obsessed with this bird lamp.  I LOVE BIRDS!

I know I want all white bedding, but I am in love with this bedskirt.

I either need a chair like this for the corner of my room, or may want a small desk/chair....still not sure
Untufted headboard...what I am going for

1st on the Agenda, choosing a fabric, everything will revolve around the fabric I choose for the upholstered headboard.  So I have bought 4 yards of this fabric from Hobby Lobby.  Then was able to match up some paint for the walls.  I know I have 4 kids, and I know I let them walk around the house with food, and one of them happens to be a year old, but I still want ALL WHITE BEDDING.  My husband is protesting heavily....

OK, now for the fabric reveal...tada! I LOVE it....
I will be keeping this antique sofa at the foot of my bed.  It was handed down
from Jeff's Great-Grandma, which we then had reupholstered in this yummy
tan chenille fabric, this will be the priciest thing in the room hands down!

This ugly dresser and mirror has potential in my opinion.
$28.30 for the set...what a steal!  Good Will my friends,
as long as you can stand the smell and get in and out quickly,
it is worth it!
I have already started to sand it.  I would like to paint
it distressed white/ivory and change out the hardware.
It will go underneath the hung TV on the wall.
The mirror doesn't have a home yet.

Bye Bye to this bulky armoir.  If we keep hanging TV's
on the wall, we are going to have a garage full of these.
Time to have a garage sale!

OK, just playing around, and now that I see
this hanging above the TV, it's coming down
or else I need to paint it.

My managerie of open back frames purchased
with a smile from Hobby Lobby's 90% off isle.
I will paint these all the same color if I can ever decide on one!

I have chosen these Ethan Allen tables for the bedside.
I would like to cover the round one with fabric
and possibly hang the homeless mirror above the rectangle one,
once it's painted.  It is not out of the question to
repaint them to match the dresser, still not sure.
Now gotta start the Lamp hunt.

Juicy Room Update

Using the same furnishings, but added color and a few new accessories, my Daughter feels like she has a new room!  The turquoise is bright, but very cheery.  Perfect for a 13 year old girl!

This adorable table I found at an antique store for a steal!  I might paint it hot pink though
